Just what are Splayds, anyway?
Once upon a time, a Canadian engineer named McArthur was transferred to Australia. The job required his attendance at many government functions which were quite often buffets. He hated the balancing act of trying to eat standing up or sitting with his plate balanced precariously on his knees.
He complained to his wife who promptly replied, “You’re an engineer, invent something!”
And so he did…and it was good. He took the standard fork and shortened the tines which allowed him to enlarge and deepen the bowl. SO HOW DO YOU CUT WITH IT?
McArthur beveled and curved the edges of the outer tines. This allows the user to cut by rocking the Splayd from heel to tip. The rocking motion allows the user to cut chicken, ham, roast, and seafood…almost everything with just a single utensil! They are 18/8 stainless steel and dishwasher safe.
Splayds are not only an ideal buffet utensil; they have a variety of other uses. They are great for dining outdoors, be it on your deck, balcony or patio. Take them along camping, hiking, biking, tailgating or on a picnic. We think Splayds also make a great gift! Wedding, anniversary, shower, housewarming…a simple hostess gift or an unusual baby gift.
